Expert warns of AI’s limits after facial recognition leads to Portland man arrest

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Robert “Jacob” Hoopes, a Portland resident and Reed College alumnus, was arrested by FBI agents after being linked to a photo published in an article.

Court documents stated he was identified using facial recognition software, which scanned a picture of a suspect found in an Oregonian article, and reportedly provided 30 matches from a public database.
