Portland to pay $3.75 million settlement to family of man killed in 2022 police shooting

The city of Portland is set to pay $3.75 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of an unarmed man shot in the back by a police officer in 2022.

Juan Chavez, one of the attorneys representing Immanueal Jaquez Clark’s family, confirmed the news of the settlement Friday. In March, the suit was filed against the city and the Police Bureau in the U.S. District Court in Portland.

Cody Bowman, a city spokesperson, said the city attorney’s office believes the settlement is in the interest of all parties. City councilors are scheduled to vote on it next Thursday…
