Multnomah County offers detailed count of how many children receive local homeless services

While the total number of homeless children in Oregon remains elusive, Multnomah County has recently upped its efforts at accuracy when it comes to data on its homeless population.

In April, the county released a detailed database of non-personally identifying information on everyone who had received county services in the recent past. The data includes gender, veteran status and age.

According to a county analysis of that data requested by The Oregonian/OregonLive, 150 families, including about 301 children, were staying at shelters with their families in April. That doesn’t include minors staying in shelters for people escaping domestic violence or who are unaccompanied. Another 365 families that include children were on the shelter waitlist in July. And just over 1,000 total families, including many of those in shelter or waiting for it, were in line for subsidized housing…
