PPS superintendent sets tone for new school year, talks AI with Colin Kaepernick

PORTLAND, Ore (KOIN) — Portland Public Schools is preparing to kick off the 2025-26 school year with a keynote address from the district’s superintendent, Dr. Kimberlee Armstrong.

The event also included a special guest appearance from ex-football player Colin Kaepernick, who is working to help bring AI tools to PPS.

On Wednesday, Dr. Armstrong addressed PPS’s educators, staff members, the Board Directors, elected officials and more, to set the tone for the year ahead.
