Portland to replace, add new traffic cameras throughout city

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – As part of its continued efforts to reduce the number of traffic-related deaths, the city of Portland will be replacing and upgrading its traffic cameras. The city is expanding its Speed and Intersection Safety Camera Program and plans to add cameras to additional intersections in high-traffic areas.

Portland already has 32 traffic cameras placed throughout the city. As part of the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and the Portland Police Bureau’s (PPB) new contract with safety equipment supplier NovoaGlobal, all 32 of those cameras will be replaced and upgraded. In addition, new cameras will be placed at the following intersections:

  • Southeast Powell Boulevard at 34th Street
  • Northeast 82nd Avenue and Fremont Street
  • Northeast 82nd Avenue and Klickitat Street

The project expansion is expected to be completed by November 1, according to PBOT. The intersections were chosen based off of traffic data and location suitability.

“All of Portland’s safety cameras are on Portland’s High Crash Network, which represents just 8% of Portland’s streets but accounted for 70% of deadly crashes in 2022,” PBOT said…
