Burgerville phasing out longtime favorite menu item, replacing it with ‘seasonal catch’

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A locally-based fast food restaurant has announced they are saying goodbye – for now – to a longtime favorite menu item.

At the beginning of August, Burgerville announced that, after 40 years, they are gradually phasing out halibut from their fish and chips and crispy fish sandwich.

The restaurant said this is predominantly due to Wild Alaskan Halibut spawn for 2025 being the lowest observed since the 1970s and the fisheries simply can’t meet the required demand.

In an effort to keep up with sustainable fishing practices – as well as the seasonal menu items for which the restaurant is known – Burgerville says they are instead introducing a “Wild-Caught Seasonal Catch” to give the halibut time to repopulate…
