CORBETT Ore. (KPTV) – A grass fire broke out Tuesday night near the Thousand Acres area east of Portland, near an encampment long known for a large unhoused population.
Corbett Fire crews were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. to the site near 2999 Thousand Acres Road, where they found a 30-by-30 foot blaze burning near a makeshift structure. Several residents attempted to put out the flames before firefighters arrived, officials said.
Access to the fire was complicated by blocked roads, ditches, barricades, and barking dogs. Some residents resisted firefighters, stating they did not want help, according to Corbett Fire.
