PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – On Monday, the City of Portland announced a new and controversial homeless shelter in the Pearl District will open next Tuesday, Sep. 2.
Known as the NW Northrup Shelter, the new emergency overnight shelter will have 40 beds for people to start. It’s planned to increase to 100 beds after the first month, and may expand to 200 beds eventually, the city said in a statement.
