TROUTDALE, Ore. (KATU) — The agency responsible for managing Oregon state lands to produce revenue for schools is spending over $50,000 on a failed attempt to clear out longstanding homeless camps along the Sandy River Delta.
Documents obtained by KATU through a records request reveal two contractors, NW HazMat and NW Enforcement Inc., charged the Department of State Lands (DSL) a total of $50,408 for the failed cleanup attempt that was launched in June. NW HazMat’s invoice noted that it is still calculating the cost of damage to an All-Terrain Vehicle, which it will also be invoicing the state for.
