Portland Man Sentenced to 70 Months for Max Platform Dart Attack

A Portland man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison after being convicted of a violent attack that took place on a Max platform. Joseph Naes, 40, faced judgement two days ago and received a 70-month sentence for shooting another individual with a barbed dart. The sentencing took place in Multnomah County Circuit Court, with Judge Benjamin Souede overseeing the proceedings. The altercation occurred prior to an additional case where Naes was involved in a domestic violence incident, assaulting and harassing his wife.

The case was prosecuted by Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Julian Samuels. Following the conviction and sentencing, Samuels commented on the resolution. “this was an attack of unnecessary violence and hopefully this sentence brings a sense of closure and accountability to the victim and the community,” he said as obtained by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office news release. The aftermath of this case leaves a man incarcerated and a community grappling with the fallout of his violent acts.

The prosecution and conviction of Naes came with acknowledgments for the collaborative law enforcement efforts that lead to his sentencing. In a statement, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office extended gratitude to Transit Police, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, and the Gresham Police Department, noting the crucial roles these agencies played during the investigation.
