Planned SE Portland Detox Center Next Door to Elementary School Causing Concerns

PORTLAND, Ore. — Rose City Detox Center is working to establish a new facility along SE Holgate near SE 127th Ave. That’s right next door to Gilbert Heights Elementary School which has brought out concerns from local parents and the community. It would literally share a fence line with the school.

Rose City Detox Executive Director Billy Anderson tells KXL he’s keenly aware of the inheirant concerns parents might have about a detox center being placed next door to a school with kids. He says his plans for the center are to have it serve specific patients who are referred under 24/7 care. He says the old Golden Acres Retirement Home provides the perfect setup to take patients in and safely provide them detox services without disturbing the neighborhood.

Billy says he grew up in the neighborhood and is himself a recovering addict. He says he has taken concerned parents through the proposed facility to provide them a first hand look at what they are attempting to do…
