PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — “I need your help.” That’s the subject of an email Portland Mayor Keith Wilson sent on Wednesday afternoon, asking residents for various forms of support as the city addresses challenges on the federal and local levels.
Wilson made the plea amid what he referred to as a “pivotal week,” with officials recently opening the Pearl District’s overnight-only NW Northrup Shelter and NW Glisan Oasis Day Center. He noted that both facilities are “critical” in his goals to curb homelessness, improve public safety and boost the local economy.

However, the mayor has indicated that community support could help advance those plans.
“We’re delivering real change to Portland, and if you can contribute a bag of snacks, an hour of your time as an artist, teacher, or builder, or even a small show of financial support to our emergency shelter system, I want to connect,” Wilson wrote, linking to a slideshow that highlights several ways to contribute to the city’s several homeless services…
