$40 million wrongful death lawsuit filed in downtown Portland road rage death

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The estate of Ryan Martin is seeking $40 million in damages from Uber, Multnomah County, and Geoffrey Hammond, in connection with Martin’s death.

Martin was shot and killed by Hammond in October 2023. Hammond was sentenced to life in prison in June 2025 for Martin’s death.

According to the lawsuit, Hammond applied for a concealed carry license in September 2020, stating on his application that he was not the subject of a restraining order. The application was approved in July 2021 by Multnomah County…
