Oregon City Parents Sentenced For Withholding Medical Care From Newborn Son

OREGON CITY, Ore. — An Oregon City couple who withheld life-saving medical care from their newborn son, resulting in his death, has pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal mistreatment in Clackamas County Circuit Court.

Blair Edwards, 37, and Taylor Edwards, 32, received 30-day jail sentences and five years of supervised probation after admitting Monday that they failed to seek medical treatment for their son, Hayden, despite signs of severe medical distress.

The Edwards are members of the Followers of Christ, a religious group known for rejecting modern medicine in favor of prayer and faith-healing.
