Alvadore, Ore. – A small town Oregon mini mart is presented with a giant check Thursday for selling a winning Megabucks ticket to a Eugene-area trades-person.
Purchased at Alvadore Gas and Store, just west of the Eugene Airport, the ticket turned out to be an $8.1 million dollar winner in the August 16th Megabucks drawing. Store owner Chandni Sharma says she was in disbelief when the Oregon Lottery called, “We had an $8.1 million winner here. And I was like, ‘No.’ And he’s like ‘Yes.’ And I was like, ‘No.’” She says, “It took me literally two days to believe it. I was super shocked.”
The store gets a 10% bonus for selling the winning ticket. Sharma says she and her husband have big plans for that $81,000. “This is a more than 100 year old building, so we had a lot of plans and upgrades that we’ve been doing in the past five years, since we bought the property. And there’s still a lot that needs to be done,” she says, “People around this area, there are a lot of farmers, construction workers, plumbers, they have been asking about hot food. So we thought about adding in a kitchen, so we can serve the community.”…
