Multnomah County sheriff denies holding detainees for ICE amid federal lawsuit

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — For nearly 25 years the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office has held an intergovernmental agreement with the U.S. Marshals Service to house people awaiting trial for federal offenses.

Wording in the agreement also calls for the hold of immigration detainees, though MCSO denies following through with the immigration holds portion of the agreement.

“Only detainees with valid criminal charges are ever admitted or housed in Multnomah County detention facilities. Civil detainees are not housed in MCSO facilities under any circumstances,” a written statement sent just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday reads…
