Portland man found guilty of plotting ‘violent attack’ at Smith Rock festival

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A Portland man has been found guilty on more than two dozen charges after prosecutors said he plotted a “violent attack” at a 2023 Smith Rock climbing event.

On Thursday, a Deschutes County jury found 41-year-old Samson Garner guilty of 26 charges including four counts of first-degree attempted murder, four counts of first-degree attempted assault, four counts of second-degree attempted assault and 14 counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

The verdict comes after Garner pleaded not guilty to all charges in November of 2023.
