Readers respond: Portland benefits from councilors’ Vienna trip

Why does The Oregonian/OregonLive insist on covering a housing policy study mission to Vienna by three Portland city councilors as if those councilors are doing something wrong or illegitimate? (“Cost of Portland city councilors’ Vienna housing trip remains under wraps,” Sept. 8). The councilors took this trip to gain ideas based on Austria’s world leadership on housing policy. The headline and tone of the story implies that they have something to hide.

We have a housing problem in Portland. Vienna is a longtime world leader in addressing housing. I commend the three councilors for their efforts to learn how best to address our challenges, and I look forward to benefiting from what they learn…
