PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man died Monday afternoon after getting stuck in a sinkhole on the central Oregon Coast.
Emergency crews were dispatched to Thor’s Well near Cape Perpetua on at 3:36 p.m. Sept. 15 for a person who had fallen into the water and appeared to be drowning.

First responders received conflicting information from bystanders about whether the victim was still in the water. They determined the person was still in the water, but were unable to perform any recovery efforts due to wave conditions and the nature of the well, according to the Yachats Rural Fire Protection District.
A Coast Guard helicopter arrived 4:10 p.m. and made two unsuccessful attempts before a rescue swimmer was able to recover the body. The events leading up to the incident are unclear.
