PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — After years of back-and-forth, we are officially on track to start construction of the new Interstate Bridge that links Portland and Vancouver on I-5. The Interstate Bridge replacement coordinator, Greg Johnson, says they expect to get the required approval from the federal government and a finalized environmental impact statement in 2026.
This comes after an update was provided by the bi-legislative committee earlier this week.
The next steps include an application to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to determine the type of bridge to build, “that will tell us whether they will allow us to build a fixed span at 116 feet or we will be required to build another moveable span.
