Man accused of pointing laser from his Portland porch at helicopter, planes circling ICE office

A 35-year-old man appeared in federal court Friday afternoon, accused of shining a laser at government helicopters and planes circling the Portland ICE building.

Hector Miranda-Mendoza pointed a green beam Saturday night at two Portland police planes, a Cessna Skylane 944 and another Cessna 172 plane and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Airbus H125 helicopter.

Investigators traced the laser beams to the front porch of Miranda-Mendoza’s home on Northeast Crystal Lane, at least 5 miles away, according to a federal affidavit…
