I have been following the efforts to encourage people to return to Portland, including initiatives to help the homeless, clean up the city and build new housing. These actions aim to make our city safer and more inviting.
However, I am concerned that these positive changes may not be enough if we fail to address the burden of property taxes on seniors. Many lifelong residents of Portland, now trying to enjoy their retirement, face the threat of being forced out of their homes due to ever-increasing property taxes.
I urge our City Council leaders, elected representatives, senators, the mayor and the governor to take immediate action. Capping property taxes for seniors is essential to allow those who have contributed to Portland for so many years to remain in their homes and communities. Please address this problem before it is too late…
