I’m proud of Oregon. Our mayor issued a thoughtful, articulate plea for the people of Portland and Oregon to find peaceful solutions while rejecting forcefully the idea of martial law. Our governor rejected the use of federal forces. Our chief of police provided a balanced and very well thought out response to the use of federal forces against American citizens. And we have prevailed, at least thus far, with a reasoned decision by U.S. District Judge Karin J. Immergut, (“Judge blocks Oregon National Guard troops from deploying to Portland,” Oct. 4).
This demonstrates that reason, articulate statements of fact, truth and the rule of law still have a place. We are far from the end in this struggle, but Portland can claim real standing…
