Cascadia Quake May Trigger San Andreas, Raising West Coast Megaquake Risk

A recent study warns that a major Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake could trigger simultaneous seismic activity along the San Andreas Fault, creating widespread emergencies across the West Coast. Led by Oregon State University marine geologist Chris Goldfinger and published in Geosphere on September 29, the research analyzed deep-sea sediment cores and found evidence that quakes in the Cascadia zone have historically set off quakes in California’s San Andreas system.
