Teen’s Homicide Plea Avoids Jail Time

Portland, Ore. – The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office is speaking out about a plea deal that led to no jail time for a young man convicted of Criminally Negligent Homicide.

Through a plea deal, Ayden Heard was sentenced to five years probation and 400 hours of community service.

DA Nathan Vasquez says Heard was barely 18 when he crashed an ATV in May, killing his passenger and friend, Ava Crews. “Extremely early and very often, what we heard out of this young man was that he wanted to take accountability; that he was immediately taking steps to engage in things like treatment.” Heard admitted to drinking with a group of teens that night. But Vasquez says, “What stood out for me, certainly was the wishes of Ava’s family.”…
