An armed man who had barricaded himself in a garage in Southeast Portland on Wednesday afternoon shot himself after police attempted to force him out of the garage with irritant gas, the Portland Police Bureau said.
The man, whose name has not been released, is now at a local hospital with a life-threatening injury.
The standoff in the 7100 block of Southeast Sherrett Street, a residential street near Harney Park, came after officers attempted to take the man into custody with an arrest warrant. The action “did not involve immigration enforcement,” the Police Bureau said…
