PORTLADN, Ore. (KOIN) — A group of mostly Maine Coon cats are now up for adoption at the Oregon Humane Society’s Portland campus as the result of an animal neglect case out of Washington County back in June.

The 30 cats – along with two birds – were rescued by Washington County Animal Services, then were to OHS where the shelter says they have since been receiving “extensive medical and behavior care.”

OHS added many of the rescued cats were suffering from eye infections and skin conditions which required surgeries, medications and other support. One of the cats even needed surgery to remove an infected eye.

OHS Chief Medical Officer Dr. Steve Kochis said thanked the generosity of shelter donors, as it cost quite a lot of money to treat the animals.

“Caring for these cats and birds, and meeting their needs over the past four months, has required a lot of resources including assistance from our incredible foster parents,” Dr. Kochis said. “Costs from this case alone have exceeded $100,000. We simply cannot do this work without support from our donors.”…
