Arson investigation underway after Portland City Councilor’s car, home damaged in fire

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Authorities are investigating a possible arson after a fire damaged the car, carport and home of Portland City Councilor Candace Avalos overnight Sunday.

Portland Fire & Rescue officials said they responded to reports of the fire in the Mill Park neighborhood at around 2:40 a.m., finding several vehicles and a carport on fire.

The fire was successfully put out and no injuries were reported, authorities said.

PFR noted there is now an open and active investigation into the cause of the fire. However, Portland police, who assisted fire officials at the scene, said the cause is “considered suspicious in nature.”…
