‘Hard to say goodbye’: Portland concert space to close in late November

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Weeks after a report revealed that most of Oregon’s independent concert spaces aren’t sustainable, a Portland venue is preparing to close later this month.

Lollipop Shoppe has announced that it will shutter “around” Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 27.

“Like a lot of small businesses, we’ve been struggling to make ends meet as operating costs continue to rise,” Lollipop Shoppe wrote on Instagram. “We put every part of us into this venue + it’s hard to say goodbye, but we need to restore our personal + financial balance.”

Just last month, data from the National Independent Venues Association showed that only 37% of independent Oregon concert spaces were profitable. NIVA Board Vice Chair and Revolution Hall and Mississippi Studios co-owner Jim Brunberg also cited rising costs as a reason why businesses were struggling, in addition to people’s post-pandemic behaviors…
