Portland City Council to consider adding fees for leasing to detention centers

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Portland City Council is set to review legislation that would introduce a yearly “detention facility impact fee” aimed at offsetting costs associated with facilities that are being used by government entities to incarcerate people.

The proposal, introduced by Councilors Angelita Morillo and Mitch Green, seeks to address expenses such as police overtime incurred during protests outside the ICE building.
