Driver killed in Southeast Portland utility pole crash identified

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The driver killed Friday after crashing into a Southeast Portland utility pole while attempting to elude police has been identified, police announced Saturday.

Just before 3:00 a.m., police said a patrol officer saw a 2017 Audi Q7 – driven by 35-year-old Jermaine Young-Boyd – and another vehicle stopped in a lane at Southeast 119th Avenue and Clinton Street.

Suspecting the drivers were about to engage in speed racing, the officer initiated a traffic stop.

However, police said that before the officer turned on his emergency lights, both drivers sped away “in a reckless manner.”…
