For the second time, Norberto Nestor Muniz Jr. has been convicted of murder in the case of Amy Low, whose demise shook the Beaverton community back in 2018. According to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office, a jury delivered the guilty verdict on November 6, 2025, also convicting Muniz of first-degree abuse of a corpse.
This conviction comes after his initial 2022 conviction was overturned by the Oregon Court of Appeals, resulting in a retrial. The haunting details of the crime were disclosed once again in court, as evidence was presented showing that Muniz, alongside another individual, lived with the victim. Responding to a report, Beaverton police discovered Ms. Low’s body, which was so badly burned that she could not be identified until early the following year, with the assistance of the Oregon State Police Forensic Unit. Muniz’s arrest, with the assistance of the Portland Police Bureau, came months after the grim discovery on May 8, 2019.
Investigators were able to piece together the events leading to Low’s murder, revealing a brutal beating followed by her body being burned in a backyard pile. Crucial to the case, detectives found several items at the residence containing DNA evidence that linked Muniz to the crime, as mentioned in the statements from the Beaverton Police Department detectives and senior prosecution officials.
