PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Ted Buehler considers himself “one of the fortunate ones” who survived being hit by a speeding car while he was bicycling about 20 years ago.
“The car was going 50 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour speed zone and I was launched off the back of my bicycle,” Buehler told KOIN 6 News. “I flew through the air about 50 feet and landed on the side of my head and the side of my body. And I survived.”

Buehler now is the co-chair of Portland Families for Safe Streets. The group, along with Oregon Walks, The Street Trust, 1000 Friends of Oregon, BikeLoud PDX, and the Portland Bureau of Transportation hosted Portland families, crash survivors and advocates for safer streets on this World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
