Woman gets car back after it was stolen volunteering at Portland homeless shelter on Thanksgiving

PORTLAND, Oregon — A woman who had her car stolen while volunteering at a Portland homeless shelter has it back, her son said.

The volunteer, Cheryl, told KGW that on Thanksgiving, she parked her car at a lot on Northwest 1st Avenue and Northwest Davis Street, then was shocked to discover it was stolen after she’d finished serving Thanksgiving meals at the Union Gospel Mission.

She said her purse and Thanksgiving dishes were inside, adding that the car is her only means of transportation and that she cannot afford a new one due to being on a fixed income. More than $600 was spent on her cards before she canceled them, Cheryl said…
