PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Welcome Home Coalition issued a press release saying, “Monday marked Mayor Keith Wilson’s self-imposed deadline to end unsheltered homelessness in Portland. Despite this goal, his administration has concentrated on expanding overnight shelters — many of which remain underused. The plan has lacked a clear component of how the system offers a clear pathway out of shelter and into stability and housing.”
The city’s shelter utilization data shows that usage of shelter beds varies across the board.
