Portland critical care hospital will permanently shut down next year

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Hundreds of Portland health care jobs will be cut when a critical care facility ceases operations next year.

Vibra Specialty Hospital issued a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification on Monday, announcing that 310 employees will be permanently laid off on or around Monday, Feb. 1, 2026. The hospital on 10300 NE Hancock St. is closing as a result of “ongoing financial challenges that have made it unsustainable to continue operations,” Vibra’s Chief Executive Officer Michael Kerr wrote.

Clinical assistants, respiratory therapists and maintenance technicians are among the staff members who will be impacted by the layoffs. Registered nurses, certified nursing assistants and licensed practical nurses are among the roles seeing the largest job cuts, with 95 registered nurses making up the largest group.

According to the WARN Notice, the impacted workers have been or will be informed of the layoffs at least 60 days ahead of time. The notice also states that the employees are not represented by a labor union…
