Scooter rider killed by Amtrak train just north of Powell

Traffic is frequently stopped around S.E. 11th Avenue and Clinton Street, just north of Powell Boulevard, when the railroad crossing arms come down guarding the multi-track crossing serving TriMet MAX Light Rail trains, the Union Pacific Railroad’s and BNSF’s freight trains, and the Amtrak Cascades passenger trains.

According to witnesses, in the mid-morning of Friday, November 7th, the crossing arms were down, the signal lights flashing, and claxons were sounding, as an Amtrak passenger train swiftly approached the crossing.

Despite all the warnings, a man on a rented “E-scooter” was crossing the rails when the train arrived. He did not survive the collision…
