PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Roughly 37,000 Oregonians who rely on food assistance are impacted by new work requirements that went into effect this month.

The change impacts what were known as “able-bodied adults without dependents,” which now includes adults between 18 and 64 years old who do not have a child under the age of 14.
The rule change was authorized with the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and stipulates that able-bodied adults without dependents can only receive benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for three months unless they meet certain work requirements…
