PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland police say its unique Stolen Vehicle Operations have resulted in a 65% decline in stolen cars this year compared to 2022.
With 8,109 stolen cars reported from January to September of 2022, the same comparable window of time for 2025 saw just a fraction of that number, the Portland Police Bureau said. From January to September of 2025, 2,835 cars were reported stolen.
Oregon unemployment climbs again
The latest figure points to a 65% cumulative decline since 2022. What’s more, police say each year since then has seen a steady decline from the year before.
There have been 10 Stolen Vehicle Operations based out of East Precinct conducted in 2025 so far this year, PPB said. Those missions have also included partner agencies from across the metro area, including Gresham police, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Port of Portland Police, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and the Vancouver Police Department, among others…
