Raymond Grant maintained he was the “protector of my family” Friday as he was sentenced to life in prison for killing his cousin’s boyfriend while responding to an early-morning fight between the two.
The shooting left 28-year-old Ace Lewis dead in the stairwell of the Portland apartment he shared with Grant’s cousin about 2 a.m. July 5, 2023. Grant claimed self defense during an October trial, but a jury disagreed and found him guilty of second-degree murder. Multnomah County Circuit Judge Katharine von Ter Stegge ruled Grant, 41, eligible for a chance at parole in 25 years.
