PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Efforts are underway in Portland to get a measure on the ballot to pay for more police officers, but it just hit a roadblock before it had enough signatures to qualify for the ballot.
Long holds for 911 callers and slower response times are just some of the reasons Portland police say the city needs 400 more officers.

The Portland Police Association (PPA) was joined by business leaders who support the idea of asking voters to approve moving 25% of money from the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF). They are gathering signatures to put a measure on the ballot in November 2026.
