Preservationists form petition to renovate nearly century-old Portland high school

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Portland is in the middle of renovating or rebuilding its aging high schools with work expected to begin at Wells, Jefferson and Cleveland high schools in 2026.

But now there’s a push to try and save one of the schools and renovate it, rather than rebuild.

Cleveland High School, built in 1929, is currently slated for demolition, but there are some preservationists taking their case to the public to say: Not so fast.

There is now a grassroots effort underway to try and keep the building intact, instead with a focus to remodel the inside…
