Mysterious Body Discovered in Willamette River Triggers Investigation in Portland

Early Tuesday morning, a body was recovered from the Willamette River near the Hawthorne Bridge in Portland, triggering a joint investigation by local authorities. Portland police, alongside Portland Fire & Rescue, worked to secure the scene for the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, which took over the case due to their jurisdiction over the river, according to KGW.

The discovery, made just before 9 a.m. on the east bank of the river, has so far posed more questions than answers. The identity of the deceased, as well as the cause of death, remains undetermined, with river patrols responding shortly after the report came in, KOIN reported.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office confirmed its involvement, noting that an MCSO river patrol unit is actively responding to the incident.
