New maps show what weather Oregon and the rest of the country can expect this winter

As a weak La Niña pattern continues, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Climate Prediction Center is out with new maps that show what kind of weather each state can expect this winter.

La Niña is the phase of El Niño-Southern Oscillation that generally means cooler, wetter winters in the Pacific Northwest. But long-term global climate warming trends mean that it’s harder to predict exactly how a La Niña winter will play out.

Oregon is closing out a very warm fall. At the Portland International Airport, temperatures at or below freezing have only been recorded once this season…
