74-Year-Old Pedestrian Succumbs to Injuries Weeks After Being Struck by TriMet Bus in Northeast Portland

A pedestrian who was struck by a TriMet bus in Northeast Portland back in September has now died as a result of the injuries sustained during the collision. In a statement obtained by the Portland Police Bureau’s news release, officials declared the incident to be the city’s 44th traffic fatality of the year.

Originally responding to the crash on the morning of September 19, 2025, Portland Police found the pedestrian critically injured at the scene at Northeast 16th Avenue and Northeast Sandy Boulevard. The victim, identified as 74-year-old Scott Tierney, was rushed to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, as formerly reported. Despite initial assessments, the complications from Tierney’s injuries persisted over the weeks and ultimately led to his demise.
