Strong winds could cause power outages on Christmas Eve in Oregon, PGE warns

PORTLAND, Ore. — As many people prepare for the holiday week, utility companies and emergency officials in Oregon are warning about the potential for power outages on Christmas Eve. High winds on Dec. 24 could be strong enough to knock down trees and power lines.

The National Weather Service in Portland reports gusty winds of 30-45 mph are expected on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve.

The Oregon Department of Emergency Management (OEM) said the Interstate 5 corridor, which covers the Willamette Valley, could see up to six hours of peak gusts, though the exact timing remains uncertain…
