‘Don’t kill papa’: Affidavit reveals new details in Newberg attack

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Newberg man attacked his father with a knife several times in front of his mother after pushing him down the stairs, leaving a gruesome scene behind in the family home, court documents reveal.

Thirty-one-year-old Visiliy Barbiyeru’s initial Tuesday arraignment on charges of first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon resulted in him being ordered to be held on a $150,000 security release, according to Yamhill County Circuit Court documents.

Newberg-Dundee police say they received a 911 call around 3 a.m. on Monday from Barbiyeru’s phone, which had been used to call Newberg police at least 20 times in 2025, and that when an officer called Barbiyeru’s father, his father told the officer he had been stabbed by his son, according to an affidavit filed in the case.
