Multnomah County Sheriff’s Deputy Recovers Stolen Christmas Presents in Gresham, Suspect Charged with Theft

A Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputy recovered Christmas presents that were stolen from several homes in the Gresham area. In a routine display of vigilance last Saturday, Deputy Delatorre noticed a 44-year-old woman walking near Southeast 282nd Avenue and Southeast Chase Street with what later turned out to be stolen goods. After an initial check that led to no immediate arrest, the deputy doubled back only to find the suspect now handling multiple packages, as reported by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a press release from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, these packages were nabbed right from the doorsteps of residents, leaving them to wonder if holiday cheer would be marred by petty theft. Yet, with law enforcement’s proactive stance, the gifts were recovered and a suspect, Patty Walker, was charged with second-degree theft.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, driven by Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell’s directive, emphasizes the importance of community-oriented policing. “This arrest is the result of our deputies doing exactly what our community expects of them – being alert and committed to their patrol districts so that when something seems out of place, they assess the situation and take appropriate action,” Morrisey O’Donnell said.
