Man accused of ramming patrol cars while trying to flee from NE Portland traffic stop

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 62-year-old man was taken into custody on Christmas morning, accused of ramming his car into two patrol vehicles while attempting to escape a traffic stop in Northeast Portland, officials said.

According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, deputies first saw a car with a stolen license plate parked near Northeast Prescott Drive and 136th Avenue.

Approaching the car, they found a man – identified as Steven Fitzpatrick – sleeping inside, then used their vehicles to box it in, authorities said.

When deputies knocked on the window, Fitzpatrick woke up, moved into the driver’s seat, started the car, then drove forward and reversed, hitting the patrol vehicles and causing minor damage, officials said.

He then exited the car and was arrested…
