Teen in custody after crashing stolen car in Gresham

A 16-year-old teenager, along with two youth passengers, are facing potential charges after allegedly stealing a car, crashing, and attempting to flee the scene.

At 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, a Gresham Police officer attempted to stop a red Kia Soul near Southeast 182nd Avenue and Southeast Division Street. When the vehicle fled, the officer did not engage in a pursuit. But the driver lost control and crashed into landscaping near a gas station. Three people fled from the scene.

Officers set up a perimeter and began the search with a police dog. During the search officers stopped a suspicious vehicle that was circling in the area. Hiding inside the “cargo space” were the two passengers of the stolen car — a 15-year-old juvenile and a 21-year old adult. The driver was later identified and found at a nearby home…
